Jane Dodds’ budget deal with the Welsh Government ensured that over 10,000 children have benefited from the programme by taking up the Flying Start childcare place. Indeed, the latest data shows over 80 per cent of children taking up the Flying Start childcare place.

Further, the Welsh Government have announced that they expect phase 3 to reach more than 4,000 additional children thanks to the deal with the Welsh Liberal Democrats.

Flying Start provides high quality, funded high quality, part-time (12.5 hours a week) childcare for 2 to 3 year olds all over Wales. It also provides parents support for speech, language and communication development and an enhanced health visiting services.

Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats, Jane Dodds, said:

“Flying Start can be life-changing for children and families, especially in communities where opportunities are more limited. I am proud to have secured additional funding for this programme that has translated into real, timely support on the ground.

“The Welsh Liberal Democrats realise that this is just the beginning. We want even more help for childcare to ensure that children get the best start in life, that parents are enabled to get into the workplace and that childcare settings get the support they need.

Welsh Liberal Democrats’ Lead Candidate for Gwyr Abertawe, Sam Bennett, said:

“This is brilliant news for parents, children and childcare providers in Swansea. This shows that what the Welsh Liberal Democrats can do on a national level has real impact for local families.”
