Tom Giffard Calls Out Swansea Council Over Uncollected Bins

Tom Giffard, local Member of the Senedd, has spoken out on behalf of Swansea residents by raising growing concerns about uncollected bins across the city.

Many local residents are putting their bins out on the designated collection date, only to find that they are either collected late or not collected at all. In some cases, this has resulted in rubbish being strewn across residential streets and busy high streets where families and visitors spend their time.

This situation is unhygienic, unpleasant for people across the area, and unacceptable from Labour-run Swansea City Council. The council has pledged to “increase recycling rates and reduce waste sent to landfill” – yet it is failing to play its part in keeping the streets clean in the first place.

Mr Giffard, who expressed his full support for refuse teams working hard across Swansea, criticised the council’s leadership for failing to direct resources efficiently to resolve the issue and clean up the city.

Commenting on the situation, Tom said:

“People pay enough in council tax, and the least they expect is for their bins to be collected on time. But too often, we’re seeing bins in Swansea either collected late or not at all, which can lead to rubbish being strewn across our streets.

“I’ve raised plenty of instances of this happening with the council over the past few months, but the fact that it’s occurring across the city on a regular basis means the council needs to get a grip on this city-wide problem.

“I’ve written to the council asking them to sort it out as quickly as possible, because it’s the least local residents deserve. Excuses are not good enough.”
