A men’s club that supports people who may be struggling with their emotional health is going from strength to strength and has recently staged its first drumming session at Swansea Arena.
Brewtime Men’s Club was founded in 2022 by a small group of men who had come together for peer support with their well-being.
Numbers have steadily increased and the group has been providing a range of activities for men including weekly free Tai Chi sessions, weekly tea and chat sessions and they have been trying out African drumming.
Brewtime Men’s Club has been supported by Swansea Councils Men’s Shed Funding and Swansea Arena has come on board to host the drumming sessions on the main stage.
The council’s Local Area Coordinator for Mount Pleasant, Dyfatty & Waun Wen, Jon Bevis, has been walking alongside the group since its formation.
He said: “It’s been great to see the group develop over the last 18 months from two gents meeting for coffee to a group that now has over 20 members meeting regularly.”
Brewtime member Owen Roberts added: “We are not experts or mental health professionals but we are guys that have all experienced different challenges in relation to our emotional health and have found that by coming together for a cuppa we can help reduce some of the isolation and loneliness that is often felt after experiencing poor emotional health.”
There is an open invitation for more men to attend the club’s activities.
